🧘‍♀️Yoga Strong Minute #17: From perfect to present

Samantha Harrison | OCT 30, 2025

Today's tip is a perspective shift that you can apply to all aspects of your life.

When I first started learning inversions and arm balances, I was determined to master them. I thought if I just practiced enough, I’d finally “nail” the pose.

But the more I chased perfect, the more frustrated I became.

Then something shifted when my teacher, Cyndi Lee, said to me, "Why are you taking this so seriously? Just play and don't try to be perfect."

I stopped trying to control every detail and started using inversions as an opportunity to play. To experiment. To be curious.

Because when you’re upside down, you can’t think about your inbox or your grocery list — you can only think about the moment you’re in.

Ironically, when I let go of trying to make every pose look right, I started to feel right. I enjoyed my practice more — and, oddly enough, I actually got better at it.

Now, whenever I’m practicing a kick up or even parenting my kids, I remind myself to trade perfect for present.

So this week, whether you’re practicing handstands, holding plank, or simply moving through your day — see if you can approach it with curiosity instead of judgment.

Let go of perfect & instead simply be present. That’s where the magic happens.

See you on the mat,
💜 Samantha
