🧘‍♀️Yoga Strong Minute #19: Tricky Transitions

Samantha Harrison | OCT 30, 2025

Transitions (in my opinion) are the hardest part of yoga with learning to step forward into a lunge from downward facing dog being the trickiest of them all.

If you've ever (or still) struggle with that tricky transition, this is for you.

Here are three tips to make it less tricky and a short 5-minute video to help break it down even further. Let's dive in...

TIP #1: When you lift your leg & shift to plank, bring your knee in toward your chest & round your back like cat pose.

TIP #2: Be sure you're actually shifting forward with your shoulders over your wrists when you are trying to bring your leg through.

TIP #3: Keep your heel in toward your butt (not close toward the floor) until you're ready to actually step through.

🎥 Watch this video to see the tips in action:

How to Transition from Downward Dog to Lunge

I hope these tips help to make the transition a little smoother and if not, in the video I show some other alternatives that I hope will help!

Keep practicing!
