Yoga Strong Minute #9: The Gaze Trick for Better Balance
Samantha Harrison | OCT 30, 2025
Want to learn a trick to improve your balance?
I was teaching last week when someone asked about their gaze in Warrior 3. I went on a bit of a tangent like I do but it seemed to be helpful for many people so I wanted to share the tip with you today.
In Warrior 3, when you have to transition from standing upright to bringing your torso parallel to the floor, your gaze needs to shift with you.
Here’s the trick:
As you move from standing into Warrior 3, trace your gaze down the wall in front of you. Let your eyes follow that imaginary line toward the floor so your neck stays neutral and your focus stays steady.
If you’re a Gilmore Girls fan, you know the theme song says, “Where you lead, I will follow…” In Warrior 3, it’s more like, “Where your eyes lead, your balance follows.” 😉
Keeps your head and neck aligned with your spine
Gives your brain a stable visual reference point
Helps your body move as one connected unit
Next time you’re in class, give it a try — you might be surprised at how much steadier you feel.

See you on the mat,
Samantha
P.S. If haven't heard, we've been nominated as Best Yoga Studio in Greenville! Voting ends August 11th and we'd be honored to have your vote. You can vote every day until voting ends.
